New Asha Nokia 500 for Rs 6100

The new Asha series of devices go a step ahead in terms of design, interface and value offering to keep all three devices under the $100 (Rs 6100) mark before local taxes. The new Asha 500 is the most affordable priced at $69 (Rs 4285), Asha 502 for $89 (Rs 5500) and finally Asha 503 for $99 (Rs 6100).

Design:
Like the other Asha series handsets, the new phones have also the same Lumia design elements. With clean front and back panel, the new Asha 500, Asha 502 and Asha 503 sport Lumia-eseque design carrying ahead the legacy of the Asha 501

Nokia has used a new crystal clear glass panel over the previously textured back panel to offer more premium and rich look to these entry level devices. Almost two mm layer of the glass panel stuck together with plastic back panel can be easily removed. Just like the Asha 501, the three new Asha devices will also have interchangeable back covers just in case the user is feeling festive.

The new Asha series handsets though do not have the physical back button in the front; instead they now have a capacitive button. Other keys remain the same at the right side - volume control and power key. With several colour options, it is difficult to spot out the Asha 502 from Asha 503 and Asha 500. The easiest way is to look at the back side.

The Asha 500 features a 2 megapixel camera without any flash and there are no other obstructions except the button like surface to rest thumb while pushing back the rear panel to open it. Also the Asha 500 features a 2.8 inch display and supports 2G network with dual-SIM as well as single SIM options. Nokia has packed a 1200 mAh battery to offer great run time.

Both Asha 502 and Asha 503 come with 5 megapixel camera at the back with LED flash. The only way spot the difference is that the Asha 502 has slightly different camera-LED flash placements. The Asha 503 has minimalistic back and is also 4.04-inch taller than other two phones. The new Asha 502 and Asha 503 devices feature a 3-inch display with a capacitive back button in the front.

Out of these three devices, the Asha 502 will be offered only in dual-SIM version. The Asha 500 and Asha 503 will be offered in both dual-SIM as well as single-SIM versions.

Asha improvements
Nokia has also updated the Asha software platform for the new Asha 500, Asha 502 and Asha 503 devices. The new Asha interface includes a quick access to the camera app right from the single upward swipe gesture from the lock screen. As always, Nokia continues to promote the Asha series as the single swipe access experience.

The phones come with a new camera app that offer several interesting options including - live filters. The live filters can be accessed by a long press on the screen in the camera app interface. Then the settings menu will show up from the bottom. On scrolling down the settings offers the Live Filter options followed by the resolution choices.

Fastlane has been updated to become more interactive and will show important bits of information for the social networking apps. Details such as Likes and Comments will easily be visible in the Fastlane panel. The Fastlane is accessible with a single swipe from the lock screen that shows the notifications of the new messages, missed calls and more. Even the Glance screen shows these notifications.

The Fastlane now integrates information about apps used in past and present in more comprehensive manner. The Facebook and Twitter updates show up with responses on either of the updates. There is a single press access to the app directly from the Fastlane panel.

A new version of WhatsApp will be made available for the Asha series as well. The new WhatsApp app will allow sharing images, voice messaging and group chat functionality as well. Apart from that, there are several pre-loaded apps that will offer the Asha 500, Asha 502 and Asha 503 mobile phones ready to use out of the box.

Nokia is working with developers to bring most smartphone level apps to be re-coded for Java platform and then make it usable over the Asha software platform devices. The Asha 500, Asha 502 and Asha 503 really feel great in hands and are very comfortable to use with a single hand.

Micromax A250 Canvas Turbo launched for Rs 19,990

The Micromax A250 Canvas Turbo or the Wolverine phone as it will be known due to its brand ambassador, gets an all new design compared to the Canvas 4. Micromax is hoping for better luck with the Turbo as their earlier hyped flagship didn’t go down too well with everyone. The A250 gets all the upgrades that we expected along with a very crucial sub-20K price point. The lack of expandable memory is one factor which might be a pain point for the phone but apart from this, it seems like a good offering considering the specifications alone. We can’t say much for the design as all the images of the handset appear to be renders rather than an actual shot of the phone so we’ll reserve our judgement on that till we get our hands on it.

Mobile TV catching up with Indian users

According to a recent Nielsen report, viewing video on smartphones is gaining grounds in Asia. But more importantly, among those watching videos on handsets, the engagement level is very high. Though markets like Hong Kong and Singapore saw close to 50% viewers accessing videos on handset, India has seen about 8% of viewers accessing video.

According to the International Data Corporations (IDC) AP Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, vendors in India shipped a total of 93 lakh smartphones in the second quarter of 2013, compared with 35 lakh units in the corresponding period of 2012. Mobile TV is becoming an app-driven industry, with Mobile TV apps having seven times more exposure than mobile TC+V Websites. This trend is evident with all major channels launching apps for some of their popular programmes.

Take, for instance, the Big Boss app created by Colors for the last session. The last show, Big Boss Season 6 app was downloaded at least half-a-million-times.

The channel is expecting that Big Boss Season 7 app to be downloaded by at least one million times in 30-45 days of the launch.

Websites can track your secrets

Several of Internet's top websites use device fingerprinting technology to track users without their knowledge, a new study has revealed.

Accroding to the study by KU Leuven-iMinds researchers, 145 of the Internet's 10,000 top websites use hidden scripts to extract a device fingerprint from user's browsers.

The device fingerprinting or browser fingerprinting circumvents legal restrictions imposed on the use of cookies and ignores the Do Not Track HTTP header.

The method of tracking digital fingerprint is the practice of collecting properties of PCs, smartphones and tablets to identify and track users, and include screen size, version of installed software and plugins along with installed fonts.

The study revealed that device fingerprinting targets either Flash, the ubiquitous browser plugin for playing animations, videos and sound files, of JavaScript, a common programming language for web applications.

Self Management

You are responsible for everything that happens in your life. Learn to accept total responsibility for yourself. If you do not manage yourself, then you are letting others have control of your Life. These tips will help "you" manage "you."

Here is a list of things that help you in self management and which will in turn lead you to the path of success: -

  • Look at every new opportunity as an exciting and new-life experience.

  • Be a professional who exhibits self-confidence and self-assurance in your potential to complete any task.
  • Agree with yourself in advance that you will have a good attitude toward the upcoming task.

  • Frequently ask, "Is what I am doing right now moving me toward my goals?"

  • Do it right the first time and you will not have to take time later to fix it.

  • Accept responsibility for your job successes and failures. Do not look for a scapegoat.

  • Do not view things you do as a "job." View all activities as a challenge.

In self management use your subconscious mind by telling it to do what you do want. Instead of telling yourself, "I can't do that very well," say, "I can do this very well." Give yourself points for completing tasks on your "to-do" list in priority order. When you reach 10 points, reward yourself.

  • Practice your personal beliefs. It may be helpful each morning to take 15 minutes to gather your thoughts and say a prayer.

  • Make a commitment to show someone a specific accomplishment on a certain date. The added urgency will help you feel motivated to have it done.

  • Practice self-determination, wanting to do it for yourself.

  • Believe that you can be what you want to be.

  • Never criticize yourself as having a weakness. There is no such thing. You are only talking about a present undeveloped skill or part of yourself that if you so chose, you can change. You do not have any weakness, only untapped potential.

  • Be pleasant all the time-no matter what the situation.

  • Challenge yourself to do things differently than you have in the past. It provides new ideas and keeps you interested.

  • Talk to yourself. A self-talk using positive affirmation is something that is common among all great achievers. They convince themselves that they can accomplish their goals.

  • Create your own "motivation board" by putting up notes of things you need to do on a bulletin board or special wall space. It is an easily visible way to see what you need to work on. When an item is done, remove the note. Also keep your goals listed and pictured on your board.

  • Stay interested in what you are doing. Keep looking for what is interesting in your work. Change your perspective and look at it as someone outside your job would,
  • Establish personal incentives and rewards to help maintain your own high enthusiasm and performance level.

SmartPhone Users : Think Before You Do

Dear Friends,

Experts are waving the red flag. While addition to your favorite portable gadget can be both hard to define and oddly socially acceptable, too much attention to teach can leave you drained and unable to concentrate. Here are eight ways to to get your life back, now.

"Too much information can overwhelm our senses and leave us feeling depleted," says Courtney Stewart, research associate a t he Indiana Prevention Resource center in the US.

"School work may suffer, deadlines are not met, and many instructions and employers now ban the use of cell phones while in class or on the job." Even worse, walking or driving while distracted by your mobile phone can have even more serious consequences.

"So put the phone down and spend some time talking with your friends face to face or better yet, take a walk with your friends if you want to connect and get some mood-boosting exercise."

If you think you may be tech obsessed, Stewart offers eight tips to breaking free from the chains.

01. Turn your phone off (not just silenced) while in the movie theater, or leave your phone in the car when spending time with friends.

02. Dine without your phone nearby, and never leave it directly on the table.

03. Turn your phone off while doing homework or in a meeting.

04. Resist the urge to tweet or update a Facebook status while at work.

05. Go on a walk, whether it is with a partner, child or pet, and leave the phone at home.

06. Trade in a mobile game for a game with others in person.

07. Look up directions before getting in the car to avoid looking at a GPS while driving.

08. Never text while driving.

Yes! Quality Matters

Hallo Friends,

I am not stating anything new when I say that quality matters in your product as well as the mode of living.

Yeah! It does….It always has!

It is true that high levels of quality are essential to achieve Company business objectives. Quality, a source of competitive advantage, should remain a hallmark of Company products and services. High quality is not an added value; it is an essential basic requirement. Quality does not only relate solely to the end products and services a Company provides but also relates to the way the Company employees do their job and the work processes they follow to produce products or services. The work processes should be as efficient as possible and continually improving. Company employees constitute the most important resource for improving quality. Each employee in all organizational units is responsible for ensuring that their work processes are efficient and continually improving.

Apart from Customer, the end user-experience is important to us and should be to you. The value you provide in our products matters since it’s not only an investment in our future as a credible process owner, it’s an investment of time to our customer. Getting demand for dispatches today isn’t worth the cost if our customer quickly realizes that you are not in it to help them – that our intent was selfish – and they are gone as quickly as they came.

Ultimately, everyone in the Company is responsible for the quality of its products and services.

I know that there are many disadvantages of being QA personnel in a company. Like you are not everyone's favorite person in the world and I find it hard sometimes to start a conversation with someone. They kind of respond as if you are a teacher at school. They keep it short and simple.

Moreover, making people mad when you find a little mistake that the employee thinks is ok. When you find a problem the employee is put on the spot. They all want to get their numbers. When you stop production you will have some angry co workers.

It is the proven truth that you really have no one to go too for help or a problem. The supervisor on the floor will answer questions but, you have to remember they are more worried about production than stopping it for a minor problem as well. You can make their job a little bit more stressful which they hate.

If something goes wrong or a mistake slips through. Who is the first person they are going to look at, the QA. You will most likely be held responsible for a major mistake in production.

My personal experience as a Quality Assurance; I have to say it has been a great experience. I spend a lot of time alone so this has been a great opportunity to work on my social skills. This job has pushed me to be more confident and to take authority. You have to be able to put your fist down in this job. My colleagues have been a lot of fun to work with and we all kind of stick together, it is like being a part of a team and we all got each other’s back. I have a lot of fun smiling and interacting with the employees trying to make them feel comfortable around me. The pay is a little slim but, I have to say I really like my job. It has been a great experience and I always love learning something new. I have just added another stat to my resume which is always a plus. Be optimistic and make the best out of what you have. Having that attitude at any job will make you feel better about what you are doing.

Now, I am currently trying to be a QA personnel that everyone likes. What about you?

Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0

Samsung has come out with a new version of tablet, Galaxy Note 10.1. This tablet may seem similar to 10.1 slate but Galaxy note has some features and it also has a stylus. This surely means that now you have the tool to help you jot down anything instantly and prepare notes wherever you are. Nonetheless, the similarity to its another version of Tab2 cannot be denied either but with 10.1 you have the provision of storing the stylus along with the tablet. Let us find out more about this new Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1.

Google recently launched the new Nexus 7 into the small tablet space. While a nice tablet at a decent price, the Nexus 7 is not in the same league as the Galaxy Note 8.0.

When the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 arrived a couple of months ago the value over the iPad mini was readily apparent. In addition to rivaling the size of the super-thin little iPad, the Note 8.0 has two features the former lacks. After two months of heavy use of the Galaxy Note 8.0, the value of the tablet is still very good.

Google recently launched the new Nexus 7, a nice tablet at a decent price. The refreshed model has good hardware running the newest version of the Android OS. While the new Nexus 7 is a solid entry into the tablet space, it doesn't have anything to knock the Note 8.0 off its high pedestal.

Hardware specs:

     Processor: Samsung Exynos 4412, 1.6GHz quad-core
    Display: 8-inch, 1280x800, 189 ppi, touch + pen digitizer
    Memory: 2GB
Storage: 16GB, microSD up to 64GB
    Cameras: Front- 1.3MP, Back- 5MP
    OS: Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean)
    Battery: 4,600 mAh
    Connectivity: wi-fi a/b/g/n, 2.4 and 5 GHz
    Dimensions: 210.8x135.9x7.95 mm, 8.29x5.35x0.31 inches; 340g, 0.74lb

While the hardware inside the Note 8.0 isn't as fast as that in the Nexus 7, pefrormance of the former is very snappy. The processor in the Note is more than enough to handle anything you need to do on the tablet. Scrolling is smooth, video plays well, and it handles multitasking with ease.

Pros:
Excellent size; Lots of the great stylus-based features; Strong performance; Better than average battery life; 3G edition allows you to make calls
Cons:
Plastic build; No 4G option; Display could be better; Expensive compared to similarly speed Wi-Fi devices (Nexus 7, iPad Mini, Asus Padfone 2).
Judgement:
The Note 8 is the true goldilocks device of Samsung’s ever-growing Note range of tablets and smartphones. It offers excellent performance and it’s also rather eye-catching. We’re just not sure whether it’s worth more than the iPad Mini, however.

Time for My First Tattoo

I hang with a lot of folks who have tattoos, men and women, and I don’t have any. At least I didn’t. I realized it was time to join the cool kids and get some ink! I was tired of being the one in the crowd without at least something to show off on my skin, an anchor on my shoulder, or a full sleeve on my arm, or at least a bracelet tattoo. I had to remedy that and I took it upon myself to do so without prolonging the wait.

I went to my neighborhood tattoo parlor, and there are plenty, so I just went with the one closest that seemed clean and friendly. I admit, I was intimidated by the tattoo kit at first, and I had a feeling they were just using low quality tattoo needles, but I stuck with the plan and found the most experienced artist and told him I wanted an intimidating animal of sorts tattooed across my back. Large and scary, fangs ideally, poised and ready for the kill. I left it to him to come up with the design, I wanted to be surprised by the eventual picture that would forever change the make up of my back, and my standing on my social circle.

I wish he hadn’t used a neighing giraffe as the intimidating animal, but to be honest, it’s probably better than a typical lion or hippopotamus. Or orangutan. I sent a picture of the tattoo to my friend who works at thelashop.com and he said he loved it and would try to make it appear on the homepage. I don’t think he ever did, and I don’t mind, I’m just happy to be able to hang with my crowd now and stand at least as an equal. I wish having a tattoo didn’t matter so much for social standing, but it does, and now when I see someone without one, I can’t help but look down on them, but with one tear of compassion rolling down my cheek.

Arabic MMO Game Launches on iPhone

It was the world's first fully Arabic-themed browser-based massively multiplayer online (MMO) game and now, with its debut in the App Store, 'Knights of Glory' has also become the first Arabic MMO app available for the iPhone.

Available to download as a paid app, Knights of Glory substitutes some of the now cliched character types and historical settings familiar to MMO gaming fans with warring sultans in command of medieval armies all set against a historically accurate Middle Eastern backdrop.

Produced by Falafel Games, the browser version has proven a massive hit since its launch in 2011 and won the Reader's Award for the Best Arabic Browser Game of 2012 by Arab MMO.

The game's creators say that their decision to create the original version of 'Knights of Glory' was a direct response to what they saw a lack of existing games aimed at the Arabic world. The release for mobile is solely based on user demand. So, if you are a gamer who prefers role play to single person shooters and is tired of playing the character of an elf or a pixie or an Arthurian knight, then 'Knights of Glory' could be for you.
